Braces: Where to start?
Bookmark and Share

If your dentist recommends that you get dental braces, he/she should briefly tell you the reasons why you might need them. After X-rays and impressions of your teeth have been made, the orthodontist can explain in details the proposed treatment plan for your teeth.

Plaster teeth impressions and X-rays are widely used to determine the initial problems and corrective measures.

It is absolutely ok to ask an orthodontist about:

  • What steps he plans to take in order to fix your teeth?
  • What kind of dental braces and other appliances he plans to use?
  • How they will help?

You also have the right to know:

  • What is wrong with your teeth?
  • How braces and other orthodontic appliances will help to treat your problem?
  • How long do you have to wear dental braces?
  • How to take care of teeth while you are wearing braces?

Doing your homework and asking the right questions is important. In fact, patients who are well informed about the procedures and closely follow orthodontist's instructions may achieve better results in a shorter period, saving time and money.
