Many teens are initially excited about getting to wear braces, especially, if their friends already have them on. Perhaps that's a feeling of a crowd or an excitement of getting something new. Either way, dental braces are pretty common and teens are initially pleased to get them.
Once you have your dental braces on, an excitement may disappear because of discomfort or some nervous habits.
Thinking everyone is looking at you? That's a common experience, when people start to wear braces. Hiding your teeth with a hand while you talk is not much of a remedy. Want to try talking without moving your lips? Doing that leads to mumbling.
People are always curious about the things you want to hide. So, pretending nothing is different doesn't work. It is usually better to admit.
Humorous Response: A better response may be to admit that you're now wearing braces with a humor. "Like that sparkle?", "Got an advice on how to kiss a girl now?"
Acknowledging discomfort: This sometimes makes people to take a different view and end up comforting you.
Once the people around get used to seeing you in braces, you won't stand out anymore and nobody is going to tease you any longer.
